“What? Wash your van? That was nowhere in the fine print of this stay!” Of course, complaining to Rick never did any good. Kim showed great sympathy and appreciation toward us, but Rick just cracked the whip harder!
“If you expect to get any popcorn and water for dinner tonight, GET BUSY!” crack!
All kidding aside, today was another great day. Kim made some great breakfast sandwiches and coffee then it was off to church at the Cross Roads Community Church in Farmington, New Mexico. The worship and sermon were moving and right on the mark. Reverend Wade, the youth pastor, was filling in for their head pastor and he encouraged us to fulfill our part in the Great Commission. He said that we must be willing to step outside our doorway and leave the comfort and safety of our home in order to accomplish God’s calling in our lives. The Lord has placed within each of us gifts and talents that are to be used to further His kingdom here on earth and to reach those who do not know Him.
Kind of sounded like our Great Adventure to me. We have certainly stepped outside the safety of our home, left our family behind and embarked on a journey that only He knows the breadth that it may reach! Now I can only pray that He will use this journey for His great purposes.
Please keep Reverend Wade and the youth of his church in your prayers as they embark on a missionary trip to downtown LA later this month. God bless you guys!
After church, Rick, Lindsay, Dawn and I took a ride over to Aztec, NM, to see some ruins of the Pueblo and Hope Native Americans. It is always interesting to see how advanced some of their culture had become. In this case, an extended drought is believed to have caused them to migrate out of the valley and find a more fertile place to settle.
A huge thank you goes out to Sarah, the Park Ranger who spent a great deal of time with us answering questions and sharing a wealth of information with us. Sarah, you were patient beyond measure - especially with Rick who has a wise crack about, well, just about everything! Haha [No, not me, I never have any wise cracks of my own…]
Finally, we celebrated Kara’s birthday tonight. Happy Birthday Kara!
Just for the fun of it, Rick pulled out some old slides of us wayyyy back when we were first married (Dawn and I, NOT Rick and I - come on!) and I thought I would share a couple of them. It kind of looks like Dawn has no idea what she was in store for when I get a camera in hand! Yesterday’s entry definitely bore that out, we could barely get up to speed before I would have to stop to take another picture of God’s handiwork along Route 64!
Man, it kind of looks like we were just kids! Honest, we were 20 years old and had the entire world by the tail! Now look at us, still all googlie-eyed over each other 27 years later! I’m telling’ ya, God is good!
